Maple Calculator is a powerful maths solver and versatile maths learning tool that give answers, 2D and 3D graphs and step by step calculations. This application makes it easy to enter, solve, and visualise mathematical problems from algebra, precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. Maple Calculator is available for free to download on iOS and Android devices.
What is Maple Calculator?
Maple Calculator is a free math solver app that can be used to solve mathematical problems. It can visualize graphs of 2-D and 3-D expressions and provides step-by-step solutions.
This versatile calculator app makes it easy to enter, solve, and visualize mathematical problems from algebra, precalculus, linear algebra, or differential equations. Without Maple’s powerful algorithms you can use to solve equations, students and professionals would have a hard time in math.
Maple Calculator is free from in-app adverts and in-app purchases. It is noted that the application plays in a portrait mode and is suitable for both mobile and tablet devices. The application is free and has international language support for English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Danish, Swedish, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese. Maple Calculator is supported by the MapleSoft website along with several other educational support products.
Maple Calculator is suitable for home and classroom users who are studying maths at a simple or University level.
How does it work?
The application opens promptly in portrait mode displaying the ‘Home’ screen along with the ‘Terms of use of the application’. We advise that you read these and then tick the box to continue. The application displays the main calculator screen along with a typical mathematical keypad which also includes keys to move the cursor. Several other features include an Account Menu, camera access icon, Math Editor icon, tick icon and a flag icon.
Account Menu – We advise that an account is created using this menu. This account is free and enables users to use the Maple calculator, ask questions on MaplePrimes and much more. Click the activation link in your email to proceed. The menu also provides access to Terms of use, copyright, languages (available in English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Danish, Swedish, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese) and decimal point options. Simply swipe left to return to the main screen.
The Math Editor icon – This allows the user to add a calculation using the keypad. The application has been designed to take all manner of calculations which include:
- Basic Math: Arithmetic, fractions, decimals, integers, factors, square roots, powers.
- Algebra: Solving and graphing linear equations, solving and graphing systems of equations, working with polynomials, quadratic equations and functions, logarithmic and exponential functions, trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities.
- Precalculus: Graphing, piecewise functions, absolute value, inequalities, implicit functions.
- Calculus: Derivatives, limits, definite and indefinite integrals.
- Linear Algebra: Matrix multiplication, inverse, determinant, transpose, Gaussian elimination.
- Differential Equations: Ordinary differential equations and much more.
Entering the calculation into the built-in Maths editor could not be easier. A simple calculation such as 10x10 appears below the line in a clear, logical manner whereas a more challenging calculation such as 1+x will reveal the calculated graph. The user can see further results using the blue arrow. This will reveal several other options such as a larger graph view, view the annotated plot, a 3D plane plot, differentiated with respect to x, integrate with respect to x and a table of values. The options are endless! Users can even watch how the graph changes as you change the expression. You can zoom in, pan, and even rotate 3-D plots to get a closer look at areas of interest. All solutions can be saved to later access using the Maple Cloud icon.
The Camera icon – This is where this application comes into its own. What a wonderful feature. Using the camera the user can enter handwritten and typeset maths problems using the powerful Artificial Intelligence technology. In addition to the answer devolved from the photograph the user can access fully worked, step-by-step solutions to a wide variety of math problems, including solving systems of equations; finding limits, derivatives, and, integrals; performing matrix operations; and more! If your answer is wrong but you aren’t sure why, use your camera to send your full handwritten solution to Maple Learn where you can uncover mistakes, explore further, and share your work with others.
The Flag icon – This enables the user to flag a problem to the Maple Team such as scanning issues, missing operations, editing problems, incorrect solutions and Maple Cloud issues.
It is noted that some aspects of the app require an internet connection, but you can use the powerful graphing calculator anytime.
Is Maple Calculator free?
Maple Calculator is available for free to download on iOS and Android devices.
Is the Maple Calculator app easy to use?
Maple Calculator is an incredibly versatile application with menu systems and features that are very easy to navigate. The application has a clean look to the interface and the graphics are user friendly. At no point does the screen look over cluttered. Mathematical applications can be complicated and often overwhelming. The developers have created a seamless interface that is a pleasure to use.
How will parents benefit?
Parents can be reassured that the application contains no in-app adverts or in-app purchases. The developers have Maths learning at heart and provide support throughout the application using the Flag icon. With the ever-increasing difficulty of the mathematics curriculum throughout schools this application will provide a perfect solution for those whose students are struggling with mathematic problems that cannot be supported by their parents. The camera solution along with its step-by-step workings is a lifesaver!
How will teachers benefit?
Teachers can set their students off and running with the application with very little support from the outset. Teaching mathematics at any level can be challenging. Teachers will be reassured that the Maple Calculator will provide the ideal learning partner for those who may struggle with certain mathematical topics.
How will the user benefit?
The user has been provided with an application that makes it incredibly easy to enter, solve, and visualise mathematical problems from algebra, precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, for free. This app is your essential companion to help you learn math, whether you are in a classroom or learning from home.
What we love about the Maple Calculator app
The developers can be congratulated on the amount of content provided within the application. We love the 3D graphs that can be rotated in real-time and the ability to view full screen is a real advantage. The developers have found a way to present a complicated concept in an easy to navigate platform. The support provided by the developers in and out of the application is priceless and students will feel reassured that they can find a mathematical solution to any mathematical problem.
How much does Maple Calculator cost?
Maple Calculator is a free application.
Is Maple Calculator safe to use?
Yes. The application does not contain any offensive elements or 3rd party adverts. However, the application does require an email account if the user wished to access the full power of the application.
What the Maple Calculator app could improve on
Maple Calculator is an excellent application and there is a limited amount of improvements that can be made, however, we have suggested the following:
- Sometimes our users got lost in the menu system. The application would benefit from a return icon or back arrow.
- The developers might consider the ability to screenshot the solution within the app and enable the user to mark up the solution with a pen or marker.
- The developers could consider the ability to change the background colour of the application for those who are dyslexic such as a pastel purple or yellow to aid reading.
- The developers could consider an audio option where the equations are narrated for those who are visually impaired or hard of hearing.
Overall Rating of the application
Maple Calculator is by far the best all-around maths calculator we have seen. Maths calculators are often paid applications that struggle to deliver especially when using AI technology. This application comes with a user-friendly platform and a variety of content that is suitable for home, classroom and university use. Maple Calculator comes highly recommended by The Educational Appstore.
